Spencer D. Phillips is the founder and principal attorney of Employer-Lawyer, PLLC, a Utah-based employment law firm devoted to helping employers understand, defend, and manage complex workplace legal issues, as well as representing employees in matters involving discrimination, retaliation, wage and hour disputes, and other workplace rights. With a legal career spanning more than two decades, Spencer brings nationwide experience to his clients, having successfully handled over 1,000 employment cases across 48 states.
Spencer earned his Juris Doctor (J.D.) from Brigham Young University’s J. Reuben Clark Law School in 2003 and began practicing law the following year. He is licensed to practice in both Utah and New York, and his early career included roles as a civil rights attorney, employment litigation attorney, and Judge for the State of New York, Division of Human Rights. Spencer also served as Director and Corporate Counsel for PAETEC Communications and as a Senior Attorney with Littler Mendelson, P.C., the world’s largest employment law firm.
In addition to his practice, Spencer is an Adjunct Professor of Employment Law at BYU’s J. Reuben Clark Law School, where he teaches tomorrow’s lawyers about workplace legal compliance and litigation strategy. His professional excellence has been recognized through selection to the Super Lawyers list for 2024–2025.
